Meet Akemi

Akemi Horii is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Ohio. Akemi provides psychotherapy and psychoeducation to adult and adolescent clients in individual settings.

Akemi’s client-centered therapeutic approach is influenced by the Internal Family Systems (Level-1 obtained), Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and other modalities, to help clients embrace themselves and feel empowered in their life situations.

Akemi has always been interested in learning about people, initially through her experience in languages, history, and art. Prior to obtaining a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, she had a Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, as well as Master’s degrees in biblical Hebrew and Greek, and Islamic art and archaeology.

As Akemi’s professional interests further developed to work directly with clients in clinical settings, she is passionate to get to know them at a deeper level to help grow their individual pathways. Originally from Japan, Akemi has lived, studied, and worked in finance, technology, and research and education, in San Francisco, Chicago, London and Oxford in the United Kingdom, and the Middle East, before moving to Ohio in 2021. When not working, Akemi is keen to practice and explore ways to enrich her body and soul through self-care and to appreciate the beauty of southwest Ohio with her family and their dog.

Akemi is clinically supervised by Margaret Pennington, MA, LPCC-S.
